Turning a Passion into a Career: Meet Francesca Demming

Hi! My name is Francesca Demming and I’m a sophomore public relations major. This is my first year at Kent State University and I transferred from Cuyahoga Community College. I heard a lot of great things about IdeaBase before I started working here and I’ve only been here for a month, but I already love it! Currently, I’m working on social media and copywriting at Ideabase but eventually I will be an account manager as well. I've enjoyed writing from a young age but wasn't aware of the opportunities that come with a love of writing. After spending some time writing for a newspaper I realized how much I really did enjoy writing. I then changed my major from veterinarian technology to public relations. I am so thankful that I have the opportunity to work at Ideabase and get to spend so much time writing. Being able to do what I love on a daily basis is an amazing experience.

Besides working for IdeaBase I also have an internship at the School of Library and Information Science where I write press releases and work on social media. I enjoy working there because I’ve learned about the many programs offered through the library such as Health Informatics, User Experience Design and Museum Studies. I’m also involved with PRSSA and UNICEF on campus and recently joined one of the various PRSSA committees.

In my free time I enjoy hiking, swimming and ice skating. I spend a lot of time over the summer in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, near my home. I’m very passionate about fostering animals such as dogs, cats and horses. Currently, I work part time at an animal hospital and actually fostered two abandoned kittens but ended up keeping them. I also have a horse named Dakota who I compete in hunter jumpers with. Nothing makes me feel more alive like riding horses and spending time with them.

I’m also very passionate about ending human trafficking as well as raising awareness for children in foster homes, which is one of the reasons I joined UNICEF. Recently I started volunteering at an organization that works with victims of human trafficking. I love traveling but I’ve only been to Florida and Pennsylvania. However, after graduation I would love to visit Italy and Hawaii. I’m very excited to continue working at Ideabase and am learning a lot. I can’t wait to see what projects I’ll be working on here in the next few months.

I am so thankful that I have the opportunity to work at IdeaBase and get to spend so much time writing. Being able to do what I love on a daily basis is an amazing experience.
